Staff care about the community
The Group believes in good corporate citizenship and contributes to society by sponsoring a wide range of charitable and educational projects in Hong Kong and on the mainland. Its multi-faceted efforts to work for a harmonious community earned it the Caring Company designation for the ninth year running, and its long-term support for the Community Chest earned it President's and Top Donor Awards.
'Building Homes with Heart' Caring Initiative
The Group's new 'Building Homes with Heart' Caring Initiative provides timely, short-term assistance to families in difficulty as a result of accidents or natural disasters and involves SHKP volunteers using their professional skills to do basic repairs and maintenance for the disadvantaged. The Group, along with the government and non-profit organizations, hosted luncheons for over 2,000 seniors in Yuen Long and Island East to welcome the Year of the Rabbit in early 2011. SHKP volunteers also distributed lucky bags to around 6,000 needy seniors in the territory.
Engaging Staff
The Group encourages its staff to participate in charity and fund-raising events such as the Hong Chi Climbathon to benefit the mentally handicapped children, Ngong Ping Charity Walk, Run-up Two IFC Charity Race, MTR Hong Kong Race Walk and Heifer International's 'Race to Feed'. It has also been one of the highest Fund-Raising Corporations in the Community Chest marathon for 16 consecutive years.
Supporting Major Hong Kong and Mainland Events
The Group supports major public events in Hong Kong and on the mainland, including the International Chinese New Year Night parade, New Year’s Eve countdown and Symphony of Lights show.
It supported 2008 Beijing Olympics with a donation towards construction of the Water Cube and was a 2008 Equestrian Events Property Developer Supporter, with its Royal Park Hotel in Sha Tin acting as the Olympic Village for Hong Kong.
It was also fully behind the East Asian Games in 2009. It organized hours of celebrations in the run up to the Games to encourage public participation, and it took underprivileged children and their families to watch the Games accompanied by Group volunteers.
